Yes, but to be honest - when you read books you learn new vocabulary. I do not think that "web" English is something good. Because the same situation is in Poland. A lot of people write "zdroofko" instead of "zdróko". The message is obviously clear but it is not gramatically correct. When you learn a foreign language it is good to use correct expressions. Especially in speech. But you don't have to agree - it's my own opinion.

If I wanted to express myself here I wouldn't like to be limited by the thought that my grammar is poor. Of course the main aim here may be to improve English... but if so - the headline should be changed.

I study in English, but not philology - never ever

"Had to" would mean that there is some kind of obligation in this sentence. Why should I use this expression? I wrote "if I wanted to express..." which means: "if I felt the internal need and decided to express myself here...". There is a huge difference between "have to" and "want".
Again: why do You think that I should use "had to"?
